Description

War-content Christmas greetings from Helen Keller

TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, Arcan Ridge letterhead, December 1943. Letter written to Caroline Derby of Salem, whom Helen met in 1892 at a "tea" given by the Spauldings in Boston to aid a kindergarten for the blind. In full: “Again we have travelled life's yearly orbit around God's Presence, and lo! here is the Sun of Christmas shining in all its strength. Undiscouraged by global war, ravaged continents and violated alters it quickens dormant seeds of peace and good-will that shall wipe the tears from all eyes and reveal all men to each other as brothers speaking Love's Pentecostal tongue. Full of this faith I dare to wish you a Christmas rich in hope and beauty.” Letter is also signed at the bottom, “Cordial Christmas Greetings, Polly Thomson.” In fine condition, with a horizontal fold affecting the tops of several letters of signature. R&R COA.
