DS as president, signed “Benj Harrison,” one page, 18 x 14, December 8, 1892. President Harrison appoints David P. Thompson to the position of Envoy to Turkey. Signed at the conclusion by Harrison and countersigned by Secretary of State Charles Foster. In 1874 Thompson was appointed Governor of Idaho Territory by President Grant, and during the latter part of President Harrison’s administration he served as United States Minister to Turkey. During the early 1890s Thompson was President of 17 national banks in the Northwest at one time. Repair on reverse to vertical separation, even overall toning, water staining to two edges, and a cracked but intact seal, otherwise very good condition.
