Description

“I think I have just about completed the purchase of Warm Springs”

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Roosevelt & O’Connor law firm letterhead, March 2, 1926. Roosevelt writes to his law partner Basil O’Connor. In part: “I have sent the blank to the New York Yacht Club and you must be sure to get the seconders’ letters in also, and to meet at least one member of the Membership Committee…. I am getting on finely though we have not caught many fish yet. My address up to March 20th will be Long Key, Florida, and after that Warm Springs, Georgia. By the way, I think I have just about completed the purchase of Warm Springs and will send you the date in a few days in order that you may prepare the contract of purchase with Mr. Smith, attorney for George Foster Peabody and the existing Georgia Warm Springs Corporation….” Accompanied by an unrelated 1932 TLS to Roosevelt from Congressman Tom D. McKeown, requesting “three small elm trees, or one dozen nuts from American Walnut trees from your estate, either in New York or Georgia” as part of a Boy Scout project. File holes, light creasing and toning, and mild handling wear (tiny chip to bottom edge), otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
