German naturalist and explorer (1769–1859) who wrote Kosmos, a massive five-volume study which attempted to unify the various branches of man’s knowledge. ALS in French, signed “Humboldt,” one page, 7 x 9.5, no date. An untranslated letter to Mme. Gautier in Passy, evidently expressing Humboldt’s wish to arrange a meeting. The adjacent leaf bears the handwritten address panel. Intersecting folds, light wrinkling, and a hint of mild soiling and toning, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
