American military officer and statesman (1826–1886) who fought in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War. An activist on behalf of veterans’ affairs, Logan was instrumental in the creation of Memorial Day as a public holiday. Ink signature, “John A. Logan, Ills,” on an off-white 3.25 x 2 card. Matted and framed with a nice portrait of Logan in uniform, to an overall size of 11.25 x 17.5. Old pencil notation remnant to top right corner, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
