Description

“By the great God that made us, we'll fight for our liberty till we die”: STOWE signs a copy of UNCLE TOM’S CABIN

Signed book: Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Later edition. Boston: Houghton, Mifflin & Co., 1885. Pictorial hardcover, 5.25 x 7.75, 500 pages (plus 12 pages of ads). Signed and inscribed in ink on a front blank, “Louis Smith, A Christmas gift from his friend & well wisher, H. B. Stowe, Dec. 25, 1885.” In good condition overall, with light soiling, rubbing, and wear to extremities (mild fraying to spine ends), slight cracking to hinges, toning to interior, a few tiny spots to signed page, and two prefatory pages (including signed page) separated from binding (associated chipping at gutter, well away from writing and easily restorable). Stowe is uncommon in signed copies of this, her most famous and influential work. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
