Scottish author (1850–1894) who takes a place among the most popular and durable literary figures of the nineteenth century. Though widely acclaimed for such poetry and story collections as New Arabian Nights (1882), A Child’s Garden of Verses (1885) and Songs of Travel (1896), Stevenson is best known for his classic novels of adventure and psychological drama, including the canonical Treasure Island (1883), The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886), and Kidnapped (1886). Amazing and scarce 7.5 x 10.5 four page leatherbound leaflet entitled “The Charity Bazaar,” circa 1871, signed by Stevenson at the end of the Dialogue. Copies of this youthful skit were sold or distributed on the day of the bazaar in his parent’s house at 17 Heriot Row, Edinburgh. Shortly before her son’s death, Mrs. Stevenson took a small cache of them out to Samoa, having arranged beforehand to sell signed copies to the London rare bookseller Walter T. Spencer at a guinea each. Most, if not all copies with Stevenson’s signature result from this enterprise. In fine condition. R&R COA.
