Vintage sepia matte-finish 10 x 8 photo, depicting a convention held May 19–22, 1927 to celebrate MGM’s purchase of a number of film exchanges, signed by 27 (in ink unless otherwise noted): Greta Garbo, Lon Chaney, Sr., Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Reginald Barker, Harry Caray (pencil), Lew Cody, Jackie Coogan, Karl Dane (pencil), Dolores Del Rio, Sidney Franklin, Edmund Goulding (pencil), Billy Haines, George Hill, “Snorpy” Hill, Thelma Hill, Louise Lorraine, Tim McCoy, Polly Moran, Conrad Nagel, Fred Niblo, Sally O’Neil, Eileen Percy, Aileen Pringle, Dorothy Sebastian (pencil), Avonne Taylor, and Bert Woodruff. The convention, which was attended by scores of MGM “delegates” and salesmen, celebrated a new chapter in the production and distribution of MGM’s films. The festivities included an announcement by Louis B. Mayer that Charles Lindbergh had landed safely in Paris at the end of his historic transatlantic flight. Among the dignitaries visible on the podium at left is a figure in a lion suit. Mild soiling, crease to one corner touching a few letters of McCoy’s and Percy’s signatures, and subtle silvering to dark portions, otherwise fine condition. A remarkable gathering!
