Garfield asks for help in Painesville: “You know it is the only town in the county that has any considerable Democratic strength.”

LS signed “J. A. Garfield,” one page, lightly-lined, 7.25 x 9.5, September 25, 1880. Letter to a member of the State Republican Commission. In full: “The people are exceedingly anxious to have you speak there soon after your visit to Painesville and I hope it will be possible for you to gratify them. You know it is the only town in the county that has any considerable Democratic strength.” Double matted and framed to an overall size of 26 x 19.25. In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds, and a small spot near bottom. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA. Oversized.
