American politician, historian, and publisher (1790–1868) who served as Mayor of Washington, DC in the 1830s. Force assembled and published an extensive collection of documents from the Revolutionary War under the title American Archives, which included a copy of the Declaration of Independence made from the original copper plates engraved by William J. Stone in 1823. Partly printed DS, boldly signed “Peter Force, Mayor,” three pages on two sheets, 7.75 x 13, February 8, 1838. A document relating to the sale of a parcel of land in Washington for non-payment of taxes. In very good condition, with allover light toning, mild soiling, and edge separations at folds (touching text), no faults affecting the signature. R&R COA.
