Prussian army officer (1730-1794) and trusted advisor to George Washington who came to America in 1777 and performed an invaluable service in the training and reorganization of the Continental army. Partly printed war-dated DS as Inspector General of the Army, signed “Steuben, Maj. Genl.,” one page, 8 x 2, March 1782. In full: “I certify the above muster to be true in all its Contents. Inspection for March 1782….” Matted and framed with a hand-colored engraving to an overall size of 15.5 x 19.5. Mounting as noted, and a hint of subtle soiling, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
