Less than a month before the 1868 elections: “We can rejoice over a great victory anticipated”

ALS signed “J. A. Garfield,” one page, 5 x 8, October 16, 1868. Garfield writes to Granville D. Hall in Wheeling, West Virginia. In part: “I regret that I have not been able to find time to be with you a few days in West Va.—but I have agreed to go to New York next weeks—and cannot be with you. We can rejoice over a great victory anticipated as well as one achieved….” Intersecting folds (vertical fold to middle initial), a few tiny tears, and some mild soiling and wrinkling, otherwise fine condition.
