Description

“THROUGH THE GULLET”: FLYNN offers a “light observation” on the way to an actor’s heart

TLS signed “Errol,” one page trimmed in size to 7.25 x 9.5, Mulholland Farm letterhead, September 24, 1951. Flynn writes to George Sherman at Universal-International Studios. In part: “That was an extremely thoughtful and nice gesture on your part…. Only a thought came to me that made me wince a little … I seem to remember saying something, at lunch, about the simple ways to an actor’s heart which was, I claimed, not through his stomach—but through his gullet. So, I can only hope you did not think this light observation was in the nature of a hint!… I haven’t the least doubt that you and I and Red are going to have a lot of fun, as well as turning out the best work we can….” The letter evidently relates to Sherman directing Flynn in the 1952 action film Against All Flags, costarring Maureen O’Hara and Anthony Quinn. In very good condition, with trimming as noted, light scattered staining (away from signature), and marginal wrinkles. PSA/DNA Auction LOA and R&R COA.
