ALS signed “Donna,” two pages, 5.5 x 6.25, personal letterhead, January 2, 1978. Reed sends thanks for a book on Frank Capra, and mentions her two most famous films. In part, “Have you noticed how films gain or lose stature from decade to decade? I was surprised for example to see in the A.F.I. poll of top 50 American films that ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ was included, but not ‘From Here to Eternity’ and so it goes.” Reed won an Academy Award for her role in From Here to Eternity, hence her perceived slight it wasn’t in the top 50 American films.
