Description

Self-styled American “western” entertainer (1869–1943) who toured the U.S. as a sharpshooter and, between showbiz stints, earned a medical degree. ALS signed “Dick,” one page, 8.5 x 11, March 23, 1935. Tanner writes to Capt. L. H. North in Columbus, Nebraska. In part: “We are slowly coming out of it, but we are far from being well. It was a hard jolt for me, and for a time I feared Ruth and I were going to have pneumonia. Things looked pretty ‘dark.’ I did not hear from you for so long I was worried for fear you were down sick. Captain, please excuse this short letter, for I tell you it is hard work for me to write, I am so very nervous…. Your old friend….” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope with the return signature “Dr. Tanner.” The items are matted and framed together with a photo and an 1896 Deadeye Dick magazine to an overall size of 32 x 28. Intersecting folds (away from signature), otherwise fine condition. R&R COA. Oversized.
