Description

Declining to comment on “missing” his former Commander in Chief

Army general (1880–1959) whose ambitious plan for rebuilding Europe in the aftermath of World War II earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1955. TLS signed “G. C. Marshall,” one page, 7 x 9, Department of the Army letterhead, October 11, 1951. Marshall writes to Michael Allen at Look magazine. In part: “I have your letter … with the renewed invitation to participate in your publication by contributing a statement for an article, ‘What I Miss Most about Franklin D. Roosevelt.’ While I appreciate your asking me, I am sorry that it is not possible for me to oblige. Since my retirement I have been literally deluged with requests very similar in nature, and since it would not be possible for me to accede and still get some relaxation from the tasks necessarily involved I send regrets….” In very fine condition. R&R COA.
