Partly printed DS as president, one page on vellum, 14 x 19.5, January 17, 1899. An appointment for Albert C. Dieffenbach as lieutenant in the Navy. Countersigned by John D. Long as secretary of the Navy. The embossed paper seal remains intact at lower center. In very good condition, with document affixed to heavy card (edges “wrapped around” to back), a touch of light toning and soiling, and a few faint stains and wrinkles.
