Description

“TAKE MY HEART IN EXCHANGE”: GRANT writes to his ailing Operation Petticoat costar

ALS signed “Cary,” three pages, 4.5 x 3.5, no date. Grant writes to Madlyn Rhue. In full: “Your heart is in good care—and I’m happy to know it’s whole—that you are whole again—I’m also unhappy that we have contact now, today, this evening, here—because I had a small—and now it will be small, alas—surprise to surprise you with. So, until the surprise that will not be a surprise, take my heart in exchange [adding a small sketch]….” Rhue (1935–2003), a well-known character actress, appeared with Grant in the 1959 film Operation Petticoat. She earned a footnote in pop culture history for her role as Lt. Marla McGivers, Khan’s love interest in the original Star Trek episode “Space Seed.” Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope. In fine condition. R&R COA.
