Description

American politician (1782–1852), much esteemed for his eloquence as an orator, who was a longtime member of Congress and Secretary of State under Harrison and Tyler. Early ALS signed “D. Webster,” one page, 8 x 10, November 11, 1811. Webster writes from Boston to Nathaniel A. Haven in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. In part: “I am much obliged to you for your continued kindness, & shall certainly answer your draft for 500 dls…. I am in hopes of seeing you in this month, as I have engaged Mr. M— to attend the hearing of his cause at Exeter, before the referees. Mr. Chamberlain informs me that he has had a trial for the Unity lands, & recovered them….” The integral leaf bears the handwritten address panel. Intersecting folds (vertical fold to last name) and light wrinkling and handling wear, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
