Personal deputy to Adolf Hitler (1894–1987). Convicted at Nuremberg and sentenced to a life sentence, he was incarcerated at Spandau Prison in Berlin, where, following the releases of fellow convicts Baldur von Schirach and Albert Speer in 1966, he remained the sole inmate for some two decades, until his death by apparent suicide. ANS in pencil, in German, signed “Hess,” one page on the reverse of a 7.75 x 3 slip clipped from a document, December 4 [no year]. In full [translated]: “Office: With the approval of Major Kelly I ask for my fountain pen.” A translation is typed above the written text. The printed side of the document has references to several cities in France and to the Gestapo, concentration camps, the “hygiene and work system,” and the mortality rate. Light even toning, a faint spot or two, and light handling wear (chip to bottom edge tape-repaired from reverse), otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
