TLS signed “H. H. Arnold,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Headquarters, Army Air Forces letterhead, April 27, 1944. Arnold writes to Congressman T. G. Burch. In part: “I am replying to your letter ... relative to the desire of ... David D. Jameson, to continue his aviation cadet air crew training.... [His mother] ... apparently had reference to the recent War Department directive ordering the return to the Ground and Service Forces of those men who had transferred from these Forces to the Army Air Forces for air crew training, but who had not, as yet, been assigned to pre-flight training. As later information received from your office indicated, Mrs. Jameson’s son did not belong in this group but had volunteered and qualified for the training from civilian status.... Mr. Jameson is therefore being permitted to continue his air crew training.... The need for trained, efficient, capable, young men is shared by all the Services. No one Branch should have a preponderance of such youth at the expense of another....” In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds (a few small edge separations; vertical fold to first letter of signature), and light toning, wrinkling and handling wear (tiny holes to top margin).
