Description

German field marshal (1891–1944) who earned the sobriquet “The Desert Fox” for his tactical genius as Commander of the Afrika Korps. In 1944 he was implicated in a plot to assassinate Hitler; given the choice of suicide or a trial, he ended his own life with poison. War-dated DS, in German, signed “Rommel,” one page, 7.5 x 10, April 30, 1942. Rommel signs off for a soldier nominated for the award of the Iron Cross, first class, signed at the bottom in pencil by Rommel as General der Panzergruppen. Matted and framed with a deckle-edge postcard photo of Rommel, to an overall size of 14 x 24. In fine condition, with an even overall shade of toning, small repair to top edge, and an uneven left edge. R&R COA.
