Father of Jewish World War II diarist Anne Frank (1889–1980) who was the only member of his family to survive the concentration camps. Three items: glossy 3.25 x 5 photo of Anne Frank, signed and inscribed in ballpoint on the reverse, “‘Anne,’ for Mr. E. L. Mitzel from Anne’s father, Otto Frank, Aug. 17th, 1969”; 1969 TLS to the same recipient, in part: “I am sending you enclosed my autograph. I am doing it to please you—but I am not quite happy about it. I understand that you are a collector and so the name of my daughter Anne is known to you as the writer of ‘The Diary of Anne Frank.’ But I am not a writer, I am only a ‘father’ of a writer. Is it worth while to collect my autograph? I feel a little embarrassed. I hope that your wish to receive my autograph came up after having read my daughter’s ‘Diary’ and that you understood the message contained in it….” Also included is a Grandma Moses–designed holiday card sign “Reciprocating your good wishes, Otto Frank.” Most unusual! In fine condition. R&R COA.
