Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Delaware (1733–1798). Scalloped-top manuscript DS, signed “Geo: Read,” one page on vellum, 31 x 13, March 28, 1750. A quitclaim deed between Abraham Mitchell, “hatter,” and John Bringhurst and Bartholomew Penrose for a parcel of land in Philadelphia. Read has signed on the reverse as a witness. In good condition, with heavy intersecting storage creases (one touching first letter of signature; small holes at intersections) and scattered toning, soiling, and wrinkling.
