Description

Marjorie Morningstar: Original film score manuscript by MAX STEINER

Prolific Austrian-born American film composer (1888–1971) who won three Academy Awards from a total of 26 nominations. Among his best-known scores are those for King Kong, Gone with the Wind, and Casablanca. Original short-score manuscript for the opening theme to the 1958 film Marjorie Morningstar, comprising approximately 32 three-stave measures in pencil on three 12 x 17 sheets of Steiner’s personalized manuscript paper (the final page with one measure only), titled by Steiner at the top of the first page and signed “Max Steiner, A.S.C.A.P.” The film, adapted from the same-named best-selling 1955 novel by Herman Wouk, directed by Irving Rapper and starring Natalie Wood, Gene Kelly, and Claire Trevor, was notable for showcasing Wood in one of her first major “grown up” roles. In fine condition, with light handling wear and pencil smudges, otherwise fine condition. A rare and remarkable document from one of the most acclaimed composers in the history of film music!
