Description

LONG WAY FROM HOME: ALDRIN signs a page from the original flight plan used during the APOLLO 11 mission

Original printed page from the flight plan flown and used on the Apollo 11 mission, one page both sides, 10.5 x 8, signed in ballpoint, “Carried to the moon on Apollo XI, Buzz Aldrin.” Also included is an undated TLS, signed “Buzz Aldrin,” explaining the purpose and provenance of the item. In part: “Enclosed with this letter is a sheet numbered 3-103 and 3-104 from the Apollo 11 Flight Plan…. It is part of the entire document that was carried to the moon in Command Module Columbia during the first lunar landing mission. This sheet is from the detailed timeline section and covers hours 138 through 142 of the mission. Page 3-103 lists hours 2 and 3 of our first long sleep period after returning from the lunar surface which started at approximately 137 hours after launch from the Kennedy Space Center. Neil Armstrong and I were very tired by this time, having made the first lunar landing, first moon walk, lifting off from the Moon, and rendezvousing with Mike Collins.... We really did not get any sound sleep while on the lunar surface.... Page 3-104 lists the hours 140 to 142 of the mission which were sleep hours 4 and 5.... We did get some very sound sleep during this period.... This page has been in my private collection since 1969....” In very fine condition. COA Scott Cornish and R&R COA.
