Description

Popular soul and R&B singer-songwriter (1939–1984) who was one of Motown’s most successful artists during that label’s heyday in the 1960s and 1970s, recording such hits as “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” A day before his 45th birthday, Gaye was shot and killed by his own father during an argument over a business matter. Personal check, 5.75 x 2.75, filled out and signed as “Marvin P. Gaye, Jr.,” payable to Ready Reproductions for 8,058.13, June 8, 1979. Mild soiling and handling wear (vertical crease), bank stamps faintly showing through behind a few letters of signature, and slight haloing of ink, otherwise fine condition.
