Description

LITTLE PIECE OF HER HEART: Not-yet-famous JANIS JOPLIN writes to her boyfriend that “I wish I could be having children”

Fabled blues-rock singer (1943–1970) who died of a herion overdose at the age of 27. ALS signed “Love, J,” four pages, 5.75 x 7.75, September 10, no year [circa mid-1960s]. Joplin pens an intimate, talkative letter to her then-boyfriend, Peter De Blanc, revealing some surprisingly domestic urges on the brink of her superstardom. In part: “Jesus damn, Peter, I hope everything is going well for you. We really deserve some good times…. Hope you don’t think I’m bombarding you. I mean, a letter every day and everything! I saw a few people [at a high school football game] that I used to go to school with (I’m an alumnus). That was nice except that most of them were pregnant. That’s nice I guess, I just wish I could be having children…. If any of those pictures of you come out, send some to me. I love you. But maybe you’re really pretty sick & I shouldn’t be talking about trivialities. But, Jeez, it’s hard to talk to you when I don’t know what’s going on. Wew, I miss you baby. This separation jazz is really killing me. I’ll be so glad when we can be together again…. Good night, baby. I still love you. Hope you know it. XXXX.” Light show-through from reverse of an authentication sticker at a lower corner of the final page, otherwise exceptionally clean, fine condition. COA Roger Epperson/REAL and R&R COA.
