English-born American frontiersman (1845–1930) and Pony Express rider. His adventures were the basis for the popular series of “Deadwood Dick” dime novels of the late 19th century. Ink signature, “Richard Wm. Clarke (Deadwood Dick), Deadwood, So. Dak.,” on an off-white slip, dated January 15, 1930. Cloth matted and framed with a nice seated portrait, to an overall size of 14.5 x 17.5. In fine condition, with a few moisture spots and small date caption affixed to bottom of slip. R&R COA.
