Description

“The two fine photographs of my father standing in front of his easle”

Esteemed American painter (born 1917) best known for his distinctively realist scenes of New England and his native Pennsylvania. He attracted worldwide attention in 1986 with the revelation of his “Helga” series, executed over the period of more than a decade and hitherto unknown. The furor surrounding the paintings was such that, in a rare occurrence for the art world, the story made the cover of Time and Newsweek magazines in the same week. ALS signed “A. Wyeth,” one page, 7.25 x 10.25, October 25, 1969. Wyeth writes to artist and collector Robert T. Horvath in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In full: “My warmest thanks for sending the two fine photographs of my father standing in front of his easle [sic]—taken August 1906 in Wilmington, Delaware. The painting on the easle he considered at the time to be his best. I am deeply gratified to have these and any others you might find in the future. By all means come down and see my father’s paintings I have….” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. A few tiny spots, otherwise fine, clean condition. R&R COA.
