Description

“PURPLE” POWER: All three members of the JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE sign together

Short-lived but highly influential English/American rock band best known for the uniquely virtuosic guitar work of frontman Jimi Hendrix (1942–1970). Though initially conceived in 1966 as Hendrix’s backing band, The Experience soon became one of the first groups to popularize the “power trio” format of bass, guitar and drums. With fellow Experience members Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell, Hendrix recorded his three most successful albums: Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love, and Electric Ladyland. By April 1969, Hendrix had decided to break up the group as a result of deteriorating relations with Redding and his wish to expand his musical horizons. The group held together long enough to fulfill their existing engagements, culminating in the Denver Pop Festival on June 29. It was there that the original Experience was dissolved following Hendrix’s famous announcement from the stage: “This is the last gig we’ll be playing together.” Vintage ballpoint signatures, “Jimi Hendrix,” “Noel Redding,” and “Love, Mitch,” on an off-white 5.5 x 3.25 album page affixed to a slightly larger light green page. In fine condition, with soiling and a bit of scattered light toning from adhesive. COA Roger Epperson/REAL and R&R COA.
