Original salmon canvas seat and backrest for a director-style chair owned and used by sometime actor Juhan Nommik (a.k.a. John Nommik, a.k.a. Ivan Pavlov), circa early 1960s. Nommik, an actor in European films who immigrated to the U.S. and became a painting contractor, was evidently signed to play a bit role in a minor film, and while at Universal Studios in 1963 obtained the present item, which bears his painted name on the backrest. The backrest and seat have been signed in felt tip by a number of notables, including Alfred Hitchcock (who draws his famous profile sketch and signs, “H”), Ernest Borgnine, Burgess Meredith, Tina Louise, and several actors from the television series Wagon Train. Accompanied by an unsigned 8 x 10 photo of Nommik posing with the chair, a 1963 newspaper story featuring the same photo, and several photos and a contact sheet evidently documenting Nommik’s time at the Universal lot. In fine condition, with a touch of mild scattered soiling and slight fading to signatures. PSA/DNA Auction LOA and R&R COA.
