Controversial figure (1928–1998) convicted and jailed for the 1968 assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. Ray’s longtime protestations of his innocence were bolstered by King’s family, who believed that Ray was not involved, and that the assassination was instead the product of a conspiracy. TLS signed “J. E. Ray,” one page, 8.5 x 11, October 21, 1991. Ray writes to Walter Burks Autographs & Coins in Stanley, Kansas. In part [his spellings retained]: “I could send you 5 handwritten letters, one page, on the stationary I sent last time for $200. I’ll also send a two pages signed document from the FBI corroborating substantially the letters content. If you want to dispose of the letters with a copy of the FBI document I assume you can just xerox a copy of it…. As for pictures, I would have to have them sent in before I could do any of them….” In fine condition. R&R COA.
