Naval officer (1913–1945) who was the second most successful German U-boat ace during World War II. One of only two naval officers to receive the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds, Lüth was fatally shot by a sentry (on dry land) on May 13, 1945.
