Description

American artist and inventor (1791–1872) whose development of the telegraph revolutionized communication—and indeed, society as a whole—and represented a crucial step toward such later innovations as the telephone. ALS signed “Saml. F. B. Morse,” one page, 5 x 7.5, July 31, 1865. Morse writes to Sumner W. Stone in Columbus. In full: “Yrs. of 22. I found on my table on my return to the city from the country today, and herewith comply cheerfully with your request….” In very good condition, with letter affixed to slightly larger sheet, faint discoloration from glue staining, and a touch of mild soiling and handling wear. The writing is clear and dark throughout. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
