Description

French actress (1844–1923), known as the “Divine Sarah,” who became one of the most revered personalities ever to grace the stage. ALS in French, two pages on two adjoining black-bordered sheets, 3.5 x 5, 1877. Letter to an associate regarding an upcoming production. In part, “Mademmoiselle Plenaud will not be able to come to Monte Carlo. Mademoiselle Colombier will play in Le Passant with me. The fact she has already played the role will please me as well as her.” Of historical note, Colombier secretly wrote a series of articles about Bernhardt’s adventures during her 1880 tour of America, which became a scandalous book entitled Sarah Barnum. Bernhardt became outraged and burst into Colombier’s home and beat her with a horsewhip. In fine condition. R&R COA.
