Description

Three pioneering feminists sign together

Partly printed DS, signed on the front by Alice Stone Blackwell and Francis J. Garrison and on the reverse by Katharine McCormick, one page both sides, 10.75 x 5.25, January 18, 1911. A certificate for two shares in the corporation known as the Proprietors of the Women’s Journal, issued to the National American Woman Suffrage Association. Blackwell (1857–1950) was the daughter of noted suffragist Lucy Stone; Garrison (1848–1916) was the son of famed abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison; and McCormick (1875–1967) was one of the first female graduates of M.I.T. and president of the association to which the stock was issued. All three took an active and leading role in suffragist and women’s causes of the day. Mild handling wear and a hint of mild toning to bottom edge, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
