ALS, one page, 8 x 10.75, illustrated American National Red Cross letterhead, [envelope postmarked] July 27, 1903. Barton writes to Mr. Holman. In part: “Your letter confirming the correctness of my mental timetable is just at hand. I shall closely adhere to it…. I find that it will be best, and almost indispensable to take along my secretary Mr. Edward Howe who will go with me from here…. If he was a lady secretary, travelling with me, he would be embarrassing to my friends to entertain, but a man of the world can take care of himself and trouble no one….” Matted with the original mailing envelope addressed in Barton’s hand and a photo to an overall size of 21.75 x 16.25.
