The only colonial governor to side with the Americans during the Revolutionary War (1710–1785). Washington referred to him as “Brother Jonathan.” DS, signed “Jonth. Military commission appointing Peter Eastman a “Lieutenant of the 11th Company on Trainband in the 5th Regiment.” Signed at the bottom by Trumbull, and countersigned by George Myllys.
