Description

President of the Wells-Fargo Express Company (1805–1878), which took a leading role in the commercial development of the American west in the nineteenth century. Partly printed DS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 10 x 15.5, November 24, 1839. A quitclaim deed for a parcel of land in Pittsburgh between Wells and Hamilton Fish (1808–1893), the future U.S. Secretary of State. Countersigned by Wells’s wife, Ann Eliza Wells. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, scattered light soiling and toning, and handling wear and wrinkling (touching signature but not affecting legibility). R&R COA.
