Description

American military officer (1822–1883) who was breveted to the rank of major general for his leadership at Gettysburg. Prior to the war, he was active as an abolitionist and as an advocate to the Mormons, helping them to receive aid during their westward track and serving as a mediator during the Utah War of 1857–58. Partly printed DS, nine pages on five sheets of vellum, 9 x 14, September 5, 1872. A quitclaim deed for a parcel of land in Passyunk Township, Pennsylvania. Kane has signed on two separate pages; the document is countersigned by several others, including members of the Kane family. Heavy horizontal storage creases, handling wear, and light scattered soiling and staining, no faults affecting the signatures, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
