American author and philosopher (1803–1882). whose central role in the Transcendentalist movement earned him a place among the most influential figures in 19th-century literature and thought. His two collections of Essays, which encompass such wide-ranging topics as “Love,” “Self-Reliance,” “Experience,” “Nature,” and “Politics,” remain a fixture of the Western canon. Bank check, 6 x 2.75, filled out and signed as “R. Waldo Emerson,” payable to bearer for $66.14, January 29, 1862. Small edge tear, a hint of subtle toning and faint show-through, punch cancellation to central portion (away from signature), and check affixed to card, otherwise fine condition. Uncommon in this format! R&R COA.
