Promissory note, 8.75 x 3.75, filled out in another hand and signed by both “W. F. Cody” and “G. W. Lillie,” payable to the United States Lithograph Company for $5,372.41, dated December 15, 1911. Accompanied by a one page letter addressed to Lillie, on United States Lithograph Company letterhead, dated June 17, 1912. Letter reads, in part: “We beg to acknowledge receipt of your drafts amounting to $5536.27 in settlement of a note for $5372.41, which we have receipted and return herewith…It is certainly gratifying to have these matters met promptly at this time on account of the conditions I previously explained to you.” In overall fine condition, with vertical writing in another hand slightly touching opening stroke of Cody’s signature, small staple holes to the upper left corner, scattered light toning, and edge wear to the right edge of the check. This is the only piece we have seen signed by both Buffalo Bill and Pawnee Bill (Cody’s partner in the Wild West Show, who rescued the showman from financial straits). R&R COA.
