Description

English naturalist and author (1809–1882) whose book explaining his theories of evolution, On the Origin of the Species by Means of Natural Selection (1859), takes a place among the most influential texts in the history of scientific thought. Ink signature, “Charles Darwin, Down, Kent, With Mr. Darwin’s compliments,” on an off-white 5 x 6.5 sheet of Down, Beckenham, Kent Railway Station letterhead, dated July 1, 1879. Double matted and framed with the original mailing envelope, addressed in Darwin’s hand, and a portrait of Darwin, to an overall size of 14 x 15. In fine condition.
