New Zealand–born Edmund Hillary (born 1919), along with Sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay (1914–1986), were the most prominent members of the first party to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953. Ink signature, “E. P. Hillary,” on an off-white 5 x 3 card; and a 5.5 x 3.5 9-pence philatelic panel issued by Great Britain in 1978, commemorating the 25th anniversay of Hillary’s conquest, signed “Tenzing,” and “John Hunt.” In very fine condition.
