Endorsement in Lincoln’s hand, signed “A. Lincoln,” on a lightly lined 3 x 5.75 (folded) panel, September 7, 1864. Lincoln writes, in full: “I promised this father that upon making an affidavit such as the within, I would discharge his son as per the above order. Let it be done....” The reverse of the sheet bears a portion of a letter (evidently to Lincoln) mentioning “this rebellion,” “his son, Dominick McCormick,” “the last raid,” “the first good opportunity to desert,” and “was taken prisoner ... prisoner of War at Elmira....” A hint of mild toning and soiling and a few subtle wrinkles (lightly touching signature but not affecting appearance in the least), otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
