Description

American lawyer (1818–1891) best known as Lincoln’s law partner from 1841. He later wrote a biography of Lincoln, Herndon’s Lincoln: The True Story of a Great Life, which provided an important up-close account of Lincoln’s career in law and politics. ALS signed “W. H. Herndon,” one page, lightly-lined, 8 x 10, November 19, 1886. Letter to an unidentified recipient. In part, “Do not offer me pay for any autograph - any Lincoln relic I may send you. I have never sold any such thing to any person, except to those who contemplated making money out of the relics. I have given away freely many precious things. Lincoln relics I have never charged those to whom I sent them…except as above.” In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds, and letter affixed to a second sheet by its left edge. R&R COA.
