Description

Financier and politician; signer of the Declaration of Independence, and founder of the Bank of North America in 1782. Endorsed document, one page, 7.5 x 4.5, dated July 9, 1795. Document reads, in full, “Six months -- after date I Promise to pay Mordecay Lewis--- or Order, Two thousand Eight hundred & Eighty one 79/100 Dollars for Value received.” Signed at the conclusion, “Jno Nicholson,” and boldly endorsed on the reverse "Robt Morris." In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through single letter of endorsement, several small mounting remnants to reverse, and Morris’s signature showing through to front.
