Description

Writing to his fiancée

Much lauded and influential Czech-born writer (1883–1924) whose man-turned-insect story Metamorphosis (1915) and novel The Trial (1925) have earned a permanent and prominent place in the canon of modern literature. Mailing envelope addressed in Kafka’s hand to his financée, Felice Bauer, in Westerland, 5.5 x 3.75, postmarked August 9, 1916, signed within his return address on the reverse “Dr. F. Kafka.” Kafka was twice engaged to Bauer, but their relationship permanently ended in 1917. Mild postal wear and a few tiny ink traces and faint brushes to return address (not affecting signature), otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
