“Classic. music is perversion”: LENNON annotates an evangelical “open letter”

Unsigned black felt tip notations in Lennon’s hand on the reverse of an 8.5 x 14 evangelical flyer titled “Open Letter to John Lennon,” circa 1969–1970. The text of the flyer reads, in part: “For over a year now I have listened to you sing about peace, watched your demonstrations for peace, and read your billboards and poetry for peace. You have an exceptional talent for commanding attention. I write this letter to inquire if you have ever considered the idea of rUnsigned black felt tip notations in Lennon’s hand on the reverse of an 8.5 x 14 evangelical flyer titled “Open Letter to John Lennon,” circa 1969–1970. All we are saying is … Give Real Peace A Chance!!” On the reverse Lennon has written: “Classic[al?] music is perversion/Avant Guard [sic]/Jazz/Rock & Roll.” The bottom half the sheet bears several numerical notations in the hand of Yoko Ono related to expenses and including references to the Beverly Hilton Century Plaza, rent, food, transport and electricity.
